Chophouse

Regardless of the snow and yucky weather...I still managed to drag my wonderful boyfriend out to eat to no other than the best place in Warren, OH...the Chophouse!!! Not only my favorite place to eat but my place of employment. I must tell you, the owner, John Kouvas, is not only a great boss but a great person all together. My boyfriend use to own a restaurant, Rusty's Southside Grill, and ever since I stopped working there I have yet to find a place that I loved going to work..until I started working at the Chophouse. Not only is it the nicest place in Warren to go to, but the food and wine is to die for! We have a great deal..$15.95 on any entree on the main menu Monday thru Saturday from 4-6pm, Sunday all day! And for those who would love to step out of the box we have a "Main Attractions" menu that includes a whole Main Lobster, lobster mac and cheese, giant steaks!, a Sea Bass that can't beat anyone's, and my ultimate favorite...the scallop and shrimp entree. I could go on for days all of my favorite things there.
The Chophouse is definately one of those places where you can either go very fancy or just have a nice dinner at the bar. I for sure eat there more than once a week...even on my day off I went there!
Tonight, Michael (my boyfriend) started with the best shrimp scampi app and had a filet with gorganzola and the soup of the day: chili. For me...I went a little light. I started with some spring rolls, a glass of the House Merlot: Canyon Road, the FAMOUS Chophouse salad (my number one favorite thing) and some angel hair Ali Olio. If you are interest in a great white wine...Toasted Head Chard is a top seller along with our White Zin: Beringer. They also sell my other favorite wine (the third out of the three I love) CakeBread Wine. You can normally get CakeBread as a red or white. Honestly, CakeBread was probably my first taste of a great wine. It is a must to try!

Michael Alberini's

So today, my father and I went to one of my favorite restaurants; Michael Alberinis, which is in Boardman right by Starbucks. They have agreat wine room right as you walk in and their bar is so nice! I was ready for a nice meal after being at the dentists...which no one likes to go to :[

Today was also an important day because it has been a year since my grandfather's death and my father and I decided to start a new tradition. So to start off, I chose the most popular Merlot: Velvet Devil, tea leaves and stones fruit aromas. With a ripe fruits that engage the palate and bittersweet chocolate taste. It was a great Merlot especially with my meal. I ate it with filet topped with gorgonzola cheese and their great mashed potatoes.

I also recommend the Chicken Carmelicious and the Crispy Ahi Tuna Rolls, yum!!!

As I went looking through their enormous collection of wines, I happened to find two out of three of my favorite red wines: Silver Oak and Duck Horn...they are some what expensive but if you are ever having a special occasion, those are the wines to celebrate with!

Intro:

Who really knows anything about wine? What to pair it with, what a good choice is, red or white? For those who are not experts on wine, most of us are left in utter confusion! This blog is to help normal people, like myself, choose a good choice of wine at restaurants around Youngstown.
But enough about that! My name is Julia and I wanted to do this because most of my days are spent in a classroom or in an operating room. Being spoiled early by my mother with great wines has really given me a love for wine and the great ones that are often not recognized.
So for those of you who that automatically choose Twisted River or Barefoot wine at restaurants... This is a good opportunity to try something new! Happy wine and dining!
